Children are such a treasure, aren't they? :-) My daughter is now 12, and we've been giving her formal druid training to prepare her for an adolescent initiation. I should really write about that soon...!

"Reactions from the family were mostly positive, although my wife admitted that she was constantly wondering if anyone would come by and surprise us in the middle of the rite."

That is exactly how I feel. That is one of the reasons why I want enough wilderness in my backyard to be able to do rituals at home without surprise guests - who are welcome to spectate if they want. :D

"As we were leaving, my five-year-old daughter said, “Daddy, I’m going to hold onto these acorns, OK?” She showed me three stunted acorns in her hand, cradled there like precious jewels. “I’ll give them back to the earth when I’m done with them.”"

Okay, that is just precious. My 3 yr old has made us go back to the place where she gathered some piece of Nature, so that she could, "bring it back to its family." I don't ever recall saying anything like that to give her the idea, but it is treasured.
